The seller is suggesting that we sign a letter of intent before we prepare a contract. Is this a good idea?

I never recommend that anyone sign a letter of intent. A letter of intent is nothing more than an agreement to agree. It’s not a legally binding contract. It does nothing to aid the buyer in any way, shape, or form.
